OPENING NIGHT

EXHIBITION PRESS RELEASE

We’re thrilled to unveil "A Few Blocks Away," an evocative group photography exhibition celebrating the resilience, connection, and transformative journeys of three New York City-based photographers. This compelling showcase opens its doors on January 20, 2023, from 6 PM to 10 PM at 209 East 3rd Street, New York, NY.

Against the backdrop of The Great Resignation—a seismic cultural shift that saw millions reimagine their careers and identities—this exhibition captures the essence of perseverance and growth through three distinct artistic perspectives. Featuring the poignant works of Tanya Lavache, Alexz Roze, and Milli Stephania, "A Few Blocks Away" invites you to explore the city’s rich tapestry through themes of portraiture, spatial investigation, and deeply personal storytelling.

Each image is a testament to trusting the journey, forging connections, and finding beauty in both personal and communal narratives. These artists present their lenses as a bridge to new beginnings, sharing authentic and powerful stories that resonate far beyond the frame.

Curated by Tanya Lavache of By. Lavache Photography, in collaboration with Alex Roze of Roze Photography, Milli Stephania LLC, and Cllctv.NYC, this exhibit is a celebration of New York’s enduring creative spirit.

Join us for the opening reception and experience this unmissable dialogue in photography.

Exhibition Collection - Tanya’s

Artist Summary - Tanya Lavache

My collection serves as a visual diary, narrating my journey as a woman born and raised in the heart of New York City. Each image captures the raw essence of navigating life amidst the city's grit and resilience, where every subway ride carried me to destinations that shaped my mindset, strengthened my character, and fueled my ambition to rise above low-income circumstances.

Through these photographs, I reveal the duality of my experiences—balancing moments of danger and vulnerability with profound, God-sent beauty and peace. From the gritty reality of youthful naivety in tumultuous environments to the serenity of sunsets on the Wonder Wheel at Coney Island, these images reflect the resilience, joy, and determination that defined my path.

This body of work is more than a collection of photographs; it is a testament to survival, faith, and the unyielding pursuit of success. It symbolizes the triumph of embracing life’s challenges with grace, gratitude, and an enduring smile, guided by the belief that even in the darkest moments, there is light.
